1) Reliance Industries Limited (RIL):
  1. Afforestration programme around factory premises:
    RIL under took afforestration and horticulture development activity over 450 hecters area in its Nagothane plant.

    This involved maintenance of 14000 old plants and 800 fruit orchards. More than 17 lack multi purpose use trees are planted in the area with a survival rate of 77%.

    Other activities under taken through afforestration and horticulture development by RIL are as follows -
    • Gerbera cultivation in poly house
    • Mushroom cultivation
    • Vermicompost production from waste material
    • Organic cultivation of paddy
    • Honey bee units
    • Meadow orchard in guava
  2. Rural Development activities through MADER
    Seeking women’s empowerment and improvement in quality of life, Skill development training is imparted in 13 villages.Other activities for comprehensive rural development are also conducted.

2) Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL):
HUL has under taken a watershed development programme in Parkhed and Mandaka villages in collaboration with MITTRA. Over 206 hectares area is covered under this initiative. Afforestration work is completed on five  hectere area in the HUL factory premise and 32 hectere Panchayat land in Parkhed.

MITTRA works in the chosen villages on the other aspects of comprehensive rural development like health and sanitation, increasing the availability of drinking water and formation and capacity building of SHGs.

Achievements:
Various initiatives and efforts by HUL and MITTRA has resulted in some achievements -
  • Due to the soil and water conservation measures, it has now become possible to cultivate two crops in a year on 120 acres of land.
  • Maintenance fund of Rs.1.5 lakhs is generated through community contribution at Parkhed village. This fund will be used by the community for sustainability of the work.
  • 80 families can availdrinking water throughout the year due to construction of two community wells.
  • Local grass production on the 32 hecters area is raised from 3 tonne to 19 tonne in five years.

3) Ballarpur Industries Ltd. (BILT):
MITTTRA is implementing Jana Samrudhi Project with support from BILT in Gadchiroli, with focus on Livestock Development, Wadi – Agro Horti Forestry development, Vegetable cultivation and Oraganic farming. The Jan Samrudhi project has enabled increase in income of 369 tribal families in Ashti and Chamorshi talukas of Gadchiroli.

Sunhara Kal:
Livestock Development programme is being implemented in collaboration with ITC in the districts of Amrawati, Wardha and Pune.  Around 270 villages are being covered through 23 Cattle Development Centers. The centers are providing artificial insemination, preventive health, and fodder development activities to the villagers.

4) General Mills:
MITTRA and General Mills work together in Akole block of Ahmednagar district in Maharashtra. Development interventions like Watershed Development, Improved agriculture, Women’s development through Self Help Groups, Community Health programme are underway in five selected villages.

5) The Infosys Foundation:
The ‘Suprakashita’ (meaning enlightened) programme is being supported by Infosys Foundation.and is implemented by MITTRA in Nashik and Ahmednagar districts.

184 SHGs have registered their participation in ‘Suprakashita’ programe in which the capacities of the women members of the participant Self Help Groups are developed to improve personal, family and community’s quality of life. This is achieved through providing inputs and information to the members about community health, waste water management, kitchen garden, improved agricultural techniques, livelihood opportunities, government schemes and programmes. Awareness among the society is generated through enlightened members of the SHG. This ensures community mobilization for development.
